September 12th, 2001 • SEGMENTFrom The Show: Big VoicesSinger Little Jimmy Scott possesses one of the great and distinctive voices in jazz. Kallmann's disease kept Scott's voice from dropping beneath a tenor, but he has used it to his advantage. He describes getting used to his own voice, and reminsces about how his career started in Cleveland, took shape in New York with the Lionel Hampton band, and was later revived with a call-in radio show in Newark.
