August 22nd, 2007 • INTERVIEW:From The Show: After the Storm IX: Katrina's Second AnniversaryThroughout his life, New Orleans trumpeter and tinsmith, Lionel Ferbos, maintained a balance between music and craftsman. His career in music began in the '20s, playing with Captain John Handy's Louisiana Shakers. During the Great Depression he played in the famed black WPA band and in the '60s with the Mighty Four. When Katrina hit the city, Ferbos, at 94, held down a regular weekly gig at the Palm Court.
