From the 1940s through the 1970s, the Dew Drop Inn was the top night club in the New Orleans black community. The singing, dancing, female impersonator Patsy Vidalia served many years there as mistress of ceremonies. His performances remain legendary, and are recalled here by drummer Earl Palmer, singer Deacon John, local musician and poet Eluard Burt, and bartender Jerri Hall.

KATRINA: 10 YEARS AFTER THE FLOOD

How has New Orleans fared in the decade since the levee breaks in the wake of Hurricane Katrina? Trying to answer the question, we listen back to the music and musicians who helped the city's culture to stay afloat, including Allen Toussaint and Irma Thomas. Also scenes from the Superdome roof, where workers repaired of a 9.7 acre hole, and Cajun musicians Michael and David Doucet on a 100 years of hurricanes. Finally humorist Harry Shearer and Creole bandleader Deacon John talk today about their hopes for New Orleans' tomorrow, as the landscape of culture and economy changes.

Maryland-based guitarist Warner Williams lets his guitar do most of the talking as he moves through a live set of Piedmont blues. Jump blues king and Creole chameleon Deacon John talks about his career as both a New Orleans sideman and fronting his own band, the Ivories. Plus great music from T-Bone Walker, Doc Watson, Mississippi John Hurt and more.
